Road drains

The gullies at the edge of the road incorporate a trap to collect leaves, paper, stones, etc which could clog the drainage system, causing flooding. The gully traps have to be emptied to ensure the continued efficient functioning of the gully. They are normally emptied once a year but in some locations (e.g. on roads without kerbs) they are emptied twice a year.

How do I report a blocked gully?
Gullies are small rectangular iron grids that are normally found at the side of the road immediately in front of the kerb. They are designed to take surface water to the main sewers. Cheshire East Council is responsible for maintaining these gullies and their connections to the sewer. You can report a blocked gully by completing the online highway fault reporting form.

Flooding

Please contact the Highways Service to report a flooding problem involving highways/roads.

Does the Council provide sandbags in times of flooding?
Cheshire East Council is responsibile for the prevention of flooding of private properties. We keep a stock of sandbags for use where flooding on the highway might be a problem. To report such a flood, please contact the Highways Service.

Check out the Environment Agency information on flood warnings in the North West Region or ring the floodline on 0845 988 1188 - (this number is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week).

Please do not drive or walk through flood water - just two feet of water will float your car and six inches of fast flowing water will knock you off your feet
